welcome to a strategic links test of accuracy at moray new

The New Course at Moray, laid out by 3-time major champion Sir Henry Cotton, offers a contrasting strategic challenge to Moray Old. It’s here, flanked by RAF jets and the watchful eye of Covesea Lighthouse, you’ll find fairways that are firm and fair, shaped by wind and wisdom.

A perfect partner to the Old course experience - playable yet demanding

moray new is One of the few UK courses laid out by Sir Henry Cotton

A varied, thoughtful links layout with real character

Sir Henry Cotton visited the club in July 1970 to survey the ground and draw up plans for the second course. From a large area of dense whins (gorse) emerged a challenge to complement the Old Course. Together, the two offer a fine day out.

Sir Henry’s design ethos included four key aspects. He favoured accuracy over raw power, chose to use natural hazards strategically, liked an elevated green and wanted to create an aesthetically pleasing environment.

The 16th - Rock - 328yrds

A detailed golf course hole map showing the fairway, green, tee boxes, distances, and landmarks like trees and a rock.

This key hole offers risk and reward in a left dogleg, where flying the corner and taking square aim at the distant rock can leave the shortest of approaches to a green that gathers from the right.

The tyro may prefer the conventional route off the tee, allowing the contours of the land to gently guide the ball back into the fairway, albeit facing a longer approach past the rock to the pure, un-bunkered green.

our signature hole - the 10th

The tenth of ‘The New Course’ is classic Cotton. Bents is a short par 4 of 325 yards

From an elevated tee, almost on the beach, the flag is just visible on its raised green. Aiming at the lighthouse, the drive must carry a ditch to a fairway that will gather a good drive, but risks whins to the left and dune grasses to the right.

The short iron approach to the raised green rewards a well-judged shot while anything short or left is rejected and skittled away to leave a treacherous up and down attempt.
